PASS PLUS will benefit you by :

- reducing your risk of being involved in a road crash
- possibly saving you money on your car insurance premiums.
How to take part in PASS PLUS
- You must have passed your driving test before taking part in PASS PLUS.
- Take the six modules that make up the syllabus.
- After successfully completing the whole syllabus to an achieved or exceeded level of driving competence, you'll receive a Certificate of Completion.
- Call one of the participating insurance companies to claim your discount, quoting your certificate number.
The PASS PLUS course has been designated in six modules. The areas covered in each one are listed below.
Modules will not all take the same amount of tome to cover. However, the course must consist of a minimum of six hours tuition of practical in-car driving sessions. I split the six hours into two seperate sessions of three hours each, The first is a daytime session and the second is an evening session. The two sessions are carried out on seperate days.
How you'll be evaluated
All the modules need to be completed and assessed to an achieved or exceeded standard in order for you to receive your PASS PLUS Certificate :
- Achieved - successfully reached the required standard for each of the competencies.
- Exceeded - exceeded the required standard for each of the competences.
All six modules must be practical sessions where possible. A theory session will only be carried out where the weather, road or traffic conditions or the geographical situation mean some or all of a module can't be covered in practice.

Summary of PASS PLUS
- The PASS PLUS course can be taken at any time in your driving career ; however, the scheme is mainly aimed at new drivers within a year of passing their test. - Minimum completion time for the course is six hours.
- All PASS PLUS training must be taken after passing your test.
- All practical modules are to be completed to an achieved or exceeded standard.
- All theory modules sre to be completed to an achieved standard. The highest level a pupil can reach in a theory session is achieved, as they have not been able to demonstrate the relevant practical skills.
- The pupil and instructor must sign off each module on both your Progress Record and the Training Report Form when an achieved or exceeded standard has been reached.
- The PASS PLUS certificate may be kept on hold for two years.
- The certificate can only be presented for the holder's first discount.

When you have completed the PASS PLUS course, there are still more ways for you to improve your driving skills. One way is to take an Advanced Driving Course with an organisation like the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM). The IAM Course is designed to take the driver to a higher level of driving by following the "10 Commandments of Driving" :
- The System of Car Control
- Acceleration, Gear Changing, Braking and Steering
- Driver's Signals
- Road Observation
- Positioning
- Cornering
- Overtaking
- Skidding
- Speed and Safety

If you haven't driven for some time and are returning to driving, you may feel you would like to have a couple of sessions with me to get you back to a confident level of driving. I offer several different courses to "get back into it", just ring my freephone number at the top of the page and I would be very happy to talk with you about the most appropriate way for you to discover the joy of driving again.
